Area Attractions - Prague is the biggest and oldest city in the Czech Republic. The Slav population began to settle in the Prague basin in the second half of the 9th century. There are many interesting and beautiful buildings / churches / streets etc. The best views of Prague and of the River Vltava are from Prague Castle /Prasky Hrad/ and from Petřin Hill where is also an Observation Tower a free copy of the Eiffel Tower in Paris from 1891 and a funicular. The Old Exhibition Ground /Vystavitě/ was originally built on the southeast periphery of the Royal Enclosure *called Stromovka* for the Jubilee Exhibition in 1891 and for the Ethnographical Exhibition in 1895. After 1918 Prague Sample Fairs took place here. Frantiek Křiiks Fountain is a relic of the Jubilee Exhibition in 1891 but its many-coloured show of lights is the most attractive even for today's spectators. Center of the city Charles Bridge /Karlův most/ - a national cultural monument which is due to it*s historical role and cultural value - a dominant feature of the city. Old Town Square /Staroměstske naměsti/ - due to it*s historical role it is one of the most prominent cultural monuments of Prague. Tyn Church *Church of the Virgin* a splendid Gothic building with a nave and two aisles founded in 1365 on the site of a previous Romanesque and later Gothic church. It*s spires of height 80 m dominate the Old Town Square. Golden Lane /Zlata ulička/ - according to a legend alchemists were trying to produce the philosopher*s stone here during the reign of Rudolf II. But actually the castle archers and goldsmiths lived here. Neruda Street /Nerudova ulice/ - it links the Lesser Town Square with Prague Castle and is one of the most beautiful streets. Our special tip for a trip - princesy castle Khrasten later called Vyehrad- joined with the old Czech legends. Originated on the other bank of the River Vltava in the first of the 10th century. At the end of the 11th century the Early Romanesque Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul was built by King Vratislav II. Both were rebuilt several times. The area of the former castle is called Vyehrad Park. It is very beautiful place for a walk at any time.
