"Compared to California and Hawaii, Florida is a disappointment.
Hotels and bars up and down the whole coast, for hours.
The national seashores are an exception, of course, but they are rare.
In California and Hawaii it's the other way around.
I suppose I got lucky in Florida because they had some once-a-year five-foot-waves, so I really enjoyed the body surfing. But it was cold!
The only problem with the Luna Sea was that it was on the wrong side of a busy 4-lane highway from the ocean (about two blocks to the public beach $5/car). OTOH, someone interested in kayaking might want to put in on the lagoon just behind the Luna Sea (about 100 yards)
There are lots of places within walking distance, but the really nice restaraunt on the pier was a bit longer hike than we expected (~2 miles).
The Luna Sea had a pool, but no jaccuzzi, which would have been nice on a cold winter day. OTOH, during the summer, who would want a jaccuzzi? And why would someone want a pool if the ocean is so nearby?"
